Heavy rain and strong winds battered the east coast of England and Wales as Storm Dennis – the eighth storm to affect the UK this year – wreaked havoc across the region on Saturday. Across England, the Environment Agency said more than one million homes had been affected by floods, storm and heavy rain. Police said an estimated 11.6 million homes have been impacted by the weather across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Two people were rescued from the cliffs at St Ives after a landslide caused by the storm caused a rock fall. In Dorset, four homes were evacuated after flood waters and debris caused damage to a railway line at Longdon in Bournemouth, while in Pembrokeshire, 40 homes and a guest house were evacuated in Winmarleigh after a wall collapsed, with a 300-metre section of the track being covered in floodwater. The area's manager of flood and coastal management, Tony Adderley, said: "We had a really strong surge of water which has caused a lot of damage to the coastal infrastructure here. The wall has collapsed and there's a lot of debris at the base. A couple of houses have been
